Dear Friends,

On behalf of HAEi’s Board of Directors and ACARE’s Steering Committee, we are delighted to extend a heartfelt welcome to the 2024 HAEi Global Leadership Workshop (GLW) and the inaugural ACARE Global Angioedema Forum 2024 (GAF).

We gather with heavy hearts as we mourn the unimaginable and untimely passing of Marcus Maurer, a giant in the angioedema/urticaria realm, the driving force behind ACARE, and the Chief Medical Advisor for HAEi. Nobody could ever duplicate the vision, brilliance, determination, leadership, and special interpersonal skills that typified our beloved colleague and friend. Nevertheless, we can best honor Marcus by moving forward to implement the projects and programs he so skillfully championed.

The unprecedented patient-physician collaboration that defines the ACARE-HAEi partnership will be on display as GAF takes place alongside HAEi’s GLW. Both events will converge during our “GAF Meets GLW“ half-day session on Saturday, providing a unique and groundbreaking forum for healthcare professionals, patient leaders, and industry representatives to connect, inspire, and learn from one another.

The theme of GAF and GLW, “Navigating the Future”, sets the tone for innovative discussions that we hope will shape the future of scientific inquiry, clinical care, access to modern medicines, and patient quality of life. We encourage all participants to build new friendships and forge meaningful connections with patient advocates, medical professionals, and industry representatives you may not yet know. Our strength lies in our sense of community, and building collaborative relationships is the key to continued advancements.

It is our sincere hope that all of us leave the GLW and GAF with new knowledge and fresh perspectives, ready to transform what we’ve learned into impactful actions that improve the lives of people living with HAE around the world.
