Transport
According to Google Maps, you will need to travel to the hotel by car. Therefore, you must make sure that you have cash or a credit card to pay a taxi driver.

If HAEi has arranged your flight, HAEi will also arrange transport between the airport and the hotel for conference participants who arrive by plane. This only applies to participants arriving on Friday 15 March and departing on Sunday 17 March. If you arrive or depart any other day, you must arrange your own transport.

Please observe that it is your responsibility to stay updated on the travel regulations from:

  • Your home country,
  • The airline company,
  • In-transit countries, and
  • Panama

If you arrive on 15 March
HAEi will arrange transport to the hotel for conference participants who arrive by plane arranged by HAEi.

After clearing customs, exit to the right side through the glass doors, where you will be met by one of the bus company’s representatives holding a sign with the 2024 HAEi Regional Conference Americas logo. They will direct you to the pre-arranged busses. The representatives will be wearing red shirts with the PANAMAZING logo or the HAEi logo.

Travel time to the hotel is minimum 45 minutes.

If you arrive on a different date than 15 March
You are responsible for your own transport to the hotel; please see the ‘Transport’ information above.

If you depart on 17 March
HAEi has arranged a transfer to the airport

  • Please make sure to leave the hotel at least 3 hours before flight departure
  • Busses are for participants with flight tickets arranged by HAEi
  • Bus departure times:

About Panama

Currency
The currency in Panama City, Panama is Panamanian Balboa, but US dollars are also legal to use and accepted.

Credit cards are often accepted in the cities, especially at nicer hotels, restaurants, and stores. Smaller hotels and restaurants, however, will generally only take cash.

Laptops & Internet
If you are bringing any electrical appliances to Panama (such as a laptop computer), you should bear in mind the voltage and type of plug used here. Panama City uses a 120V supply voltage. Check that your electrical appliances will work with this voltage. You may also need a plug adapter. Panama uses plugs with 2 vertical flat pins – standard USA plug. Plug adapters are available at stores selling electrical goods and most international airports.

The City
Panama City is a multicultural city full of contrasts, offering more than a forced visit to the Panama Canal. Most of the main monuments and historic buildings are in the center, known as Casco Viejo or Casco Antiguo – home to the Presidential Palace, boutique hotels, and multiple national and international gastronomic options. The wide cultural and gastronomic offerings of Panama City resulted in its election as the American Capital of Culture in 2003. Panama City is famous for its exciting nightlife, and the city is Panama’s leading cultural and economic center, with intense financial activity and an international banking center.

We are happy to inform you that HAEi will offer real-time online translation into 40+ languages during our 2024 HAEi Regional Conference Americas.

We will use the translation app, Wordly, which supports the following languages: Arabic, Bengali, Chinese (Simplified), Chinese (Traditional), Czech, Dutch, English, French, German, Hebrew, Hindi, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Spanish, Swedish, Tagalog, Tamil, Thai, Turkish, and Vietnamese.

How to use Wordly?
You need to bring a smartphone and headphones/earbuds to use the interpretation option. Attach headphones/earbuds to your smartphone and click on the session in the program you want to have translated.

Important information about HAE medication

Important information about your HAE medication and traveling to and from Panama City, Panama.

It is EXTREMELY IMPORTANT that:

  1. you travel with a sufficient quantity of HAE medication to cover your needs while you are away from home, and

  2. either you (or your caregiver/travel companion) are able to administer your prescribed therapy, and

  3. adequate travel insurance is a mandatory requirement when traveling for the 2024 HAEi Regional Conference Americas. Please keep in mind that you will be traveling to a foreign country with a health care system that will likely be very different than the one in your home country. There is no guarantee that hospitals in Panama City have HAE medication on hand to treat an attack. Also, you may be required to pay for any emergency care or hospital visit.

  4. It is your responsibility to be up to date on and act according to the travel regulations regarding Covid-19 and other required vaccines, from the airline company, from your country, in transit countries if required, and the destination country.

There will be no emergency care or HAE medication available at the conference venue.

Neither HAEi nor any HAEi Member Organizations can assume liability or be expected to provide medical care of any nature (HAE, Coronavirus, regular flu, etc.) if you experience problems during your stay in the conference country or while traveling.

HAE Companion App

Easy access to HAEi emergency cards and HAE-knowledgeable hospitals and physicians.
When you travel, HAE Companion provides an easy way to access and store HAEi emergency cards in many languages. It also provides a list of ACARE Centers and HAE-knowledgeable hospitals and physicians using Google Maps or Apple Maps.
